How we pick (and how this site could make money)
Where the facts come from
- Every price and “which plan has it” fact comes from the vendor’s own public pricing page. The check date is shown on every page (last check: November 6, 2026).
- If a vendor doesn’t post prices (Workiz, FieldEdge and ServiceTitan right now), we say “not public.” We don’t use third-party price guesses.
- If a vendor mentions a feature but doesn’t say which plan includes it, we mark it “listed, plan not confirmed.”
- We have not paid for and run every product. We don’t publish star ratings, “tested by our team” claims, testimonials or made-up stats.
How the picker scores
- Team size: does the tool fit how many people will log in? (For example, ServiceTitan is aimed at bigger shops, and Invoice Simple is a one-person invoicing app.)
- Must-haves: each need you pick (QuickBooks sync, scheduling, job costing…) earns points if the tool lists it, fewer if it’s a paid add-on or the plan isn’t confirmed, and loses points if it isn’t listed. QuickBooks Online, scheduling and invoicing count double. QuickBooks Desktop counts triple, because few tools sync with it. A Spanish-language crew app is a small bonus, never a penalty.
- Budget: for tools with posted prices, we estimate the yearly-billed monthly price for your team size and needed plan, then compare it with your budget. Tools without public prices lose points if your budget is under $250 a month, because you can’t check them without a sales call.
- Shop size bonus: ServiceTitan only gets a boost for shops of 11+ people with a $500+/month budget. That’s who it’s built for.
- Trial: if you want to try before talking to sales, tools with no self-serve trial lose points.
- Spreadsheets win sometimes: a one-person shop doing about 10 or fewer jobs a week, with no scheduling or dispatch needs, gets told to stay with a spreadsheet when the budget is tight or they’re on paper today.
The scoring code is the same for every vendor, and it’s in the page source (assets/quiz.js) for anyone to read. It never sees what a vendor pays us.
Affiliate disclosure
LedgerAsk may join affiliate or referral programs run by some of the vendors on this site. If you click one of those links and buy, we may earn a commission or referral fee. You pay the same price. Some vendors pay more than others, and some pay nothing. That’s exactly why payouts are kept out of the scoring. When a spreadsheet or a cheaper tool is the better call, the picker says so, even though it earns us nothing.
No vendor has reviewed, approved or paid for placement on this site.
Privacy
The quiz runs entirely in your web browser. Your answers aren’t sent to a server, saved, or shared. There are no cookies, analytics, ad pixels or email gates. The “link to these answers” option just puts your answers in the web address so you can bookmark or share it yourself.
Corrections
Prices change. If you see something out of date, the vendor’s own page wins. We re-check prices and update the check date.
